Logic Puzzles: The Complete Guide to Deduction Games
Logic grids, YinYang, Bridges, Sudoku... Discover the different types of logic puzzles, their rules and benefits. Complete guide.
Logic puzzles have existed for centuries. From ancient Greek riddles to modern Japanese grid puzzles, they all share one thing: the solution can be deduced entirely, with no element of luck. In the digital age, these brain games are accessible to everyone, anywhere, on mobile or desktop.
This guide introduces the main families of logic puzzles, their rules, and how to play them online for free.
What Is a Logic Puzzle?
A logic puzzle is a problem whose solution is found through deductive reasoning alone. Unlike games of chance or trivia quizzes, each puzzle has a unique solution that follows entirely from the rules and clues provided.
Two major traditions exist:
The European tradition: deduction grids (logic grid puzzles), where textual clues allow you to fill in a table through elimination.
The Japanese tradition: grid puzzles from publisher Nikoli (Sudoku, Hashiwokakero, Takuzu…), where mathematical or spatial rules guide element placement.
Kluzio brings both traditions together with themed logic grid investigations, YinYang puzzles, and Bridges puzzles.
Types of Logic Puzzles
Logic Grid Puzzles (Intégrammes)
The logic grid puzzle is the quintessential narrative puzzle. You receive a series of textual clues and must cross-reference information in a deduction grid to find the correct associations.
Example: "Marc doesn't drink coffee. The person who drinks tea is 25 years old." It's up to you to deduce who drinks what and at what age.
Difficulty: easy (3 categories) to diabolical (6+ categories)
Duration: 10 to 45 minutes

YinYang belongs to the binary puzzle family (like Takuzu or Binairo). The goal: fill a grid with two types of elements — black and white circles — following three simple rules:
Maximum 2 circles of the same color in a row (horizontally or vertically)
Equal numbers of black and white on each row and column
Same-colored circles must form a connected group
It's a purely visual puzzle, perfect for pattern recognition enthusiasts.
Bridges (from Japanese Hashiwokakero, 橋をかけろ) is a connection puzzle. Numbered islands are placed on a grid. Your mission: connect each island with horizontal or vertical bridges, following these rules:
Each island shows the total number of bridges connecting to it
Bridges cannot cross each other
Maximum 2 bridges between any two islands
All islands must form a single connected network
This puzzle engages spatial reasoning and planning skills.

What's the difference between an intégramme and a logic grid puzzle?
They're the same thing! "Intégramme" is the French term popularized by Sport Cérébral magazine, while "logic grid puzzle" is the standard English name. The principle is identical: deduce associations from clues.
Are logic puzzles suitable for children?
Yes. Easy logic grids (3 categories, 3 elements) are accessible from age 8-9. Easy 6×6 YinYang puzzles are even simpler. They're an excellent reasoning exercise for children.
How long does it take to solve a puzzle?
It depends on the type and difficulty. An easy logic grid takes 5-10 minutes, a hard one 30-45 minutes. A 6×6 YinYang solves in 2-5 minutes, a 10×10 Bridges in 10-20 minutes.
Do I need to pay to play on Kluzio?
